As I looked out the plane window and saw the darkness below
I knew I had made the right decision. Flying into Entebbe at night is a little
different than flying into Heathrow at night. Flying in, all I saw below was
darkness with a few lights scattered across the ground. No big city lights were
there to welcome me as the plane came to a rough landing and everyone on the
airplane started cheering and clapping…”I’m home” I thought as a wave of peace
flooded me.
As I came through those gates, pushing my three suitcases,
my shoulders aching from my heavy backpack I spotted my mom and sister and was
filled with excitement!
I have been in Uganda for six days now and my time in Canada
seems like a dream. That night as I sat in my home at 1am, too excited to sleep
I explained to my family that I feel like I just came from a different world.
Going to Uganda you don’t just feel like you’ve stepped into a different
country, you feel like you are in an entire different world, a world I am more
than happy to be back in.
I fell asleep close to 2am and woke up by 8am to head to the
babies home…my biggest fear was that they wouldn’t remember me but as I walked
into the classroom I was greeted with a crowd of little black faces running up
to me and engulfing me in a giant hug!
There was a certain little girl I was praying would remember me…she
timidly walked up after the children had all greeted me, looked me in the eye
and then her sweet little face lit up with her adorable smile as she fell into
my arms <3
“God is good all the time, and all the time God is good” – I
have heard this lots of times from the teachers and children of Sanyu Babies
Home and I believe it now more than ever…
